A 71-year-old passenger from Bergenfield was jailed after New Milford police said she slashed an Uber driver with a box cutter. The 53-year-old driver from Newark picked up Linda Buckner in Hackensack and was driving her home when she became irate for some reason and slashed his face, New Milford Police Capt. Suicidal Man Hospitalized After Walking Into Route 46 Traffic: Responders
A suicidal man was hospitalized after responders said he deliberately walked into Route 46 traffic in Little Falls early Monday afternoon. The 33-year-old man, who they said spoke only Spanish, was struck near the Browertown Road exit -- apparently after some type of domestic incident -- shortly before 1 p.m. May 6. He was taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson with serious bodily injuries. Little Falls police interviewed witnesses, notified the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and were seeking area surveillance and cellphone video.

Trapped Construction Worker Dies In NJ Trench Tragedy: Police
A construction worker was killed after he was trapped in a large hole in Kenilworth on the morning of Monday, May 6, authorities said. Around 9 a.m., the construction workers were attempting to install a storm drain in the back of the business on Monroe Avenue using an excavator when the man became trapped, Kenilworth police said. First responders attempted life saving measures but the worker, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration said it is investigating.

First responders in Hunterdon County had a cow on Saturday, May 4. Literally. A cow was rescued after being trapped in the mud, the Whitehouse Rescue Squad in Readington said on Facebook. Whitehouse Rescue Squad At 5:44 p.m., the rescue squad was dispatched to Holland Brook Road near Cole Road and discovered the cow in the mud, approximately 50 yards off the roadway, first responders said. Driver Injured When Truck Overturns On Route 80:

A truck overturned on Route 80 in Warren County on the evening of Friday, May 3, authorities said. At 10:30 p.m., a Dodge truck was traveling westbound on Route 80 in Knowlton Township when it lost directional control and overturned, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Lebron said. The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.

Truck Fire Closes Two Lanes On Route 80: Wharton FD
A truck fire closed two lanes on Route 80 early Monday morning in Morris County, May 6, authorities said. Crews are still on scene cleaning up after the fire near exit 34 on Route 80 East in Wharton, the Wharton Fire Department said on Facebook. Trooper Dies During Training: Officials
A New Jersey State Police trooper has died suddenly, the department said. Trooper II Marcellus E. Bethea, who worked in Troop D at the Moorestown station, died during training, Colonel Patrick J. Callahan said. Bethea was an eight-year NJSP veteran and was a member of the 156th State Police Class. According to New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, Bethea had been training to join the TEAMS Unit, an emergency response unit "prepared to handle extra ordinary police emergencies," the NJSP website says. A woman was hospitalized with a severe leg injury after being struck by a train in Morristown on Saturday, May 4, NJ Transit officials said. The woman was on the Morristown platform with the injury when responders arrived at the scene, just before 7:25 p.m., a spokesperson for NJ Transit said. The woman was taken to the hospital by EMS. A vicious fire consumed a Wayne home and sent at least two firefighters to the hospital, responders at the scene said. An early-morning crash on Route 287 sent one person to the hospital, police said A Toyota and Subaru collided on the northbound side of the highway around 4 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, causing the Toyota to erupt in flames near milepost 26 in Bernards Township, New Jersey State Police Sgt.
