𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: A New Jersey woman was indicted by a federal grand jury for stealing more than $1 million of benefits meant for an aunt who died 25 years ago, authorities said. Janis Miller, 77, of South Orange even went as far as trying to impersonate her aunt in a phone conversation with a Social Security worker, according to the indictment returned in U.S. District Court in Newark. SUV Rams Hasbrouck Heights Apartment Building, Driver Ticketed
A driver escaped serious injury Thursday morning when her SUV slammed into the side of an apartment building in Hasbrouck Heights. Tenants in at least two units at the Boulevard Apartments were temporarily displaced, however. The entire building was initially vacated after the 68-year-old driver's parked Hyundai accelerated over the curb and into the support wall shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday, May 2. Services have been finalized for Marcin Bednarz, a 22-year-old paramedic from Bergen County who died in a New York crash on Sunday, April 28. Marcin, a paramedic with the Wallington Fire Department, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Arden Valley Road in Tuxedo, N.Y. at 3:18 p.m., according to a New York State Police report. UPDATE: A now-former Hudson County grammar school teacher from Morris County admitted in federal court that he trafficked child porn. Route 17 Closed Due To Crash In Hackensack
A crash closed all lanes of Route 17 early Thursday, May 2 in Hackensack. The NJDOT website shows the crash happened in the southbound lanes near Summit Avenue sometime before 6 a.m. Photos of the scene show a tow truck and emergency response vehicles at the scene as of press time. A fiery explosion left one woman dead and four others hurt at a manufacturing company in Old Bridge on Wednesday, May 1, authorities said. Eileen Marco, 73, of South River, was killed at the scene of the explosion at Superior Signal Company, LLC in Old Bridge at approximately 11:20 a.m., Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said. Federal authorities have moved to take custody of a 25-year-old Guatemalan immigrant who was charged with raping a woman in Fairview with a child present.
