Pound Ridge Swim Team Names New Coach

The Pound Ridge Swim and Dive team has named Joanne Lussier as its new head swim coach.

Lussier is a graduate of SUNY Cortland and was a Division III All-American swimmer in the 100- and 200-meter breast stroke. She has been coaching and teaching swimming for the past 20 years. As a coach, she led Long Island’s North Hempstead Country Club to six straight Division I championships. She also coached the boys and girls swim teams and Newtown High School for five years. She has acted as pool director for the Pound Ridge town pool for eight summers.

Lussier currently teaches health and physical education at Wilton High School. She is married and is the mother of two-and-a-half-year-old triplets.

Hayes Sgaglio and Connor White were named as Lussier’s assistants. Both competed for the Pound Ridge Dolphins before attending college, where they both continue to swim. Connor was named Ithaca College’s Rookie of the Meet after Ithaca won the Empire 8/Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships. Sgaglio works as the Pound Ridge Town Camp nurse and is an EMT for the Pound Ridge Ambulance Corp.

The team also announced that Katie Simco will return as head dive coach. She will be assisted by Emily Willhoft.

There will be a meeting for all returning and potential team members and their parents June 6 at 7 p.m. at Conant Hall. Swimmers are asked to come early to try on and order team swim suits. Additionally, tryouts for new swimmers will be held June 12, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at the Pound Ridge town pool. Team practice begins June 13.
