Fox Lane Middle School Orchestra Scores ‘Gold’

BEDFORD, N.Y. – Some Fox Lane Middle School musicians are as good as gold.

The school’s Sinfonetta Orchestra received a “gold” rating on a Level 3 repertoire when it performed at the New York State School Music Association Majors Ensemble Festival in Rockland County in May.

“This is a confirmation of the hard work, practice and dedication these students have shown throughout this school year” said Roberta Warfield, the 28-year veteran string teacher, who directs the ensemble, which rehearses after school weekly.

NYSSMA sponsors approximately 145 ensemble festivals every school year. At solo and small ensemble festivals, students are given a performance evaluation that involves playing a graded solo from the state association's manual, which includes playing scales and sight reading. At major ensemble festivals, school bands, choruses and orchestras are evaluated.
