Two Killed In Overnight Crash That Caused Hours-Long Road Closure

Two people were killed overnight in a two-vehicle crash in Fairfield County.

It happened around 11:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9, on River Road in Shelton, said Shelton Police Lt. Christopher Nugent.

An initial investigation found that two vehicles, a white BMW 5 series with four occupants, and a white Toyota Rav 4 with one occupant were involved in the crash, Nugent said.

"There are two people confirmed deceased at this time," Nugent said. "The two deceased were occupants in the white BMW."

Two other occupants from the white BMW were taken to area hospitals for injuries sustained in the crash. 

The driver of the Rav 4 was evaluated at the scene and then released.

Route 110 was closed for hours in the area of Murphy’s Lane and Rocky Rest Road while the Shelton Police Department Traffic Division, with the assistance of the Monroe Police Department Traffic Division, conducted the investigation. 

Route 110 reopened at approximately 7 a.m., Monday, Feb. 10.
