The probe was launched after The Journal News questioned why an elected official received the $15,000 grant in 2007 despite being ineligible from the program. The state is also missing mandatory records from the Peekskill-based nonprofit Preservation Company, Inc. documenting the improvement work, The Journal News reported.

The $15,000 grant was given by AHC to the Preservation Company to improve a home Claxton and her son Fredrick Claxton own on Fremont Street. Claxton and the nonprofit reportedly said they will repay the money designated for repair of the home, said The Journal News.
