What's Happening In Darien This Week

DARIEN, Conn. – Darien will host its annual Push-n-Pull Parade for kids to celebrate the Fourth of July this week. Here’s a list of all the events happening in town this week.

Monday, July 2

Learn Mah Jongg: 9 a.m. to noon. Instructor Joan Allocca will take you through the rules and strategies of Mah Jongg. The course is $65 for Darien Community Association members, and $85 for nonmembers. Darien Community Association, 274 Middlesex Road.

Historical Series with Art Gottlieb: 12:30 p.m. Historian Art Gottlieb will discuss murals commissioned under the Works Progress Administration and the Federal Art Project and share pictures of the works of art. Darien Senior Center, 30 Edgerton St.

Tuesday, July 3

EBook Wake Up: 10 to 11 a.m. The resident eBook expert will teach you how to download books onto your iPad, Kindle, Nook and other devices. Darien Library, 1441 Post Road.

Short Stories for Long Days: 3 to 4 p.m. Carroll Stenson runs this weekly discussion of short stories. Stories that will be discussed are available for pickup at the Welcome Desk the week prior. Darien Library, 1441 Post Road.

Wednesday, July 4

Push-n-Pull Parade: 10 a.m. The YWCA Darien/Norwalk’s annual Push-n-Pull Parade will feature plenty of activities for kids, including music, food and Uncle Sam. Goodwives Shopping Center to Tilley Pond Park.

Thursday, July 5

Independence Day Celebration: Noon. Enjoy patriotic music from husband and wife group Sophistication, while eating an American lunch prepared by Chef Tom. Lunch is $4. Darien Senior Center, 30 Edgerton St.

Friday, July 6

Red Cross Blood Drive: 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. All blood types welcome to the fourth annual Rocco Palmer Memorial Blood Drive. Palmer’s Market, 264 Heights Road.

Darien Summer Nights: 6 to 9 p.m. Singer-songwriter Doug Allen, a Darien native, will be playing in this week’s concert. Grove Street Plaza.

“Like Crazy” Screening: 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. The Darien Library hosts two screenings of “Like Crazy.” This film tells the story of an American man and a British woman who meet in college and fall in love. Rated PG-13. Darien Library, 1441 Post Road.
