As I review the campaign literature and reflect on the Pound Ridge Meet Your Candidates night. I realize that of the three people hoping to unseat the incumbents, only one—Pete Marchetti—has a history of volunteerism and community service. Presently serving on the Water Control Commission, Pete’s 28 year engineering background is of vital importance to the TEP and wastewater issues facing the town. Mr. Hansan and Ms. Briggs freely admit they were too involved in their own personal businesses and families to volunteer, serve on a committee, or attend Town Board Meetings. Yet they now feel they are ready to take charge of the town.
On issue after issue, Mr. Hansan and Ms. Briggs questioned why the wastewater problem has not been solved? Why are there so many vacant stores in the business district? Why property values have declined? They propose creative problem solving and strategic marketing, such as having ‘Pop Up’ businesses to fill the void; supplying housing to encourage volunteerism. They do not specify how the town would pay for it however. Had they ever been involved in the Town, they would realize that these problems have not been ignored and the solutions are not easy. Mr. Hansen, having never served, is sure he is ready to be the supervisor. Ms. Briggs, describes the Business district, as an area she finds unwelcoming and decided after boarding a bus for Washington D.C. on January 21st of this year, it was time for new leadership.
On November 7th, consider the candidates that have given many years of their time and served the community on many levels; elect the team that has proven their commitment to the preservation of our rural character, environmental stewardship, and fiscal responsibility: Dick Lyman for Supervisor; Bonnie Schwartz (business district and property owner advocate) for Town Council; Pete Marchetti experienced engineer, for Town Council; and Debbie Damascus, responsive to the needs of the residents of Pound Ridge, for Receiver of Taxes. Vote for the sensible, caring community people, proudly accountable to the taxpayers.
Join me on November 7th and Vote Team Lyman.
