Pound Ridge Police Seek Help To Solve Burglary Spree

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – Pound Ridge police are asking for the public’s help to put an end to a spate of burglaries that have plagued the town since the beginning of the year.

“We have seen an increase in the number of forced-entry burglaries,” said Pound Ridge Police Chief David Ryan. “We have had five already in January. In Pound Ridge, that’s a big number.”

Ryan said he wants people to keep an eye out for suspicious individuals or vehicles and report them no matter how innocuous they may seem.

“If people see something out of the ordinary, say something,” he said. “If we get there and it turns out to be a contractor or hair dresser – so be it. We had a neighbor who actually saw the burglar and didn’t say anything.”

Ryan said if people have something to report they should call 911 and not the department’s non-emergency line.

“We need to get there and investigate immediately,” he said. “We are looking for any type of information about the vehicle – a license plate number if they’ve got it. Do they know which way it went; did it go north or south? If they see the person, we are looking for a physical description. Were they white, black, Latino? What were they wearing?”

Ryan said it’s not just Pound Ridge that’s been having trouble with burglaries – several communities throughout northern Westchester, including Lewisboro, Bedford and Somers, as well as Kent in Putnam County – have been reporting them.

Ryan said that it’s not known If the crimes are related or the work of one individual or a team, but he said they share several similarities.

“Many of them take place during the day when people are at work,” he said. “They are forced entry – they break through a door or a window. They seem to be targeting jewelry, but they are certainly not bypassing other things.”

Pound Ridge police are coordinating the investigation with the State Police and other local police forces.

“There are some leads that we are pursuing but we can’t reveal them during the course of the investigation,” he said.
