Officers responded to an unspecified location to a report of an unconscious victim, said police.
Police arrived at the scene in less than two minutes and quickly determined the person had recently used heroin. Officers administered Naloxone, also called Narcan, an antidote that reverses an opioid overdose, and began other lifesaving measures, according to police.
The victim regained consciousness and treatment was taken over by the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, police said.
The involved officers will be issued a life-saving medical service award.
The New Canaan Police Department gave special recognition to Silver Hill Hospital of New Canaan, which in 2014 supplied the department's patrol officers with Naloxone. Silver Hill helped fund the program and trained the officers in use of the life-saving drug.
It is estimated that nationwide nearly 27,000 lives have been saved by expeditiously administering Naloxone/Narcan, police noted.
