ID Released, Homicide Investigation Launched After Human Remains Found At Bank In Westchester

A homicide investigation has been launched and the victim identified after a suspicious duffel bag containing apparent human remains was discovered outside a bank in Westchester earlier this week.

Members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 500 Odell Ave. at about noontime on Monday, Nov. 19 after receiving a report about the bag.

Detectives from the Major Case Unit and Crime Scene Unit interviewed subjects and witnesses, reviewing surveillance video, and processing forensic evidence.

An investigation has discovered the duffel bag contained the intact body of a deceased black male; the victim suffered from multiple severe stab and puncture wounds to his back, torso, neck and head areas that apparently resulted in his death, Yonkers PD Det. Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said.

The whole body of the victim was packed into the duffel bag and discarded where it was found, police said. Investigators are actively following up leads to identify the perpetrator(s) and location of occurrence of this crime. The victim has been identified as Deshawn Cortez-Seaborne, a 24-year-old resident of Portsmouth, Virginia.

Yonkers Police investigators are working closely with the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office to develop more information.
