Pound Ridge Police Chief Dave Ryan, who was first on the scene of an apparent double murder/suicide in a quiet neighborhood in town said the event was a heartbreaking loss for the community and marked the only murders in his 19 years with the department.
The 56-year-old father who killed his wife and daughter before shooting himself on Friday was struggling financially, according to the New York Post.
Steven Dym killed his 50-year-old wife Loretta and 18-year-old daughter Caroline with single shots in the mid-section from a 12-gauge shotgun, then shot himself in the head.
A funeral mass has been scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 7 Pound Ridge Road, Bedford Village. Interment will be private.
Care and services are being provided to the Dym Family by the Cassidy-Flynn Funeral Home in Mount Kisco.
Memorial donations may be made when a college fund is set up for 20-year-old William Dym, a student at USC.
The Dyms' 4,600-square foot five-bedroom, five-bathroom home at 23 Fox Hill Road, valued at around $1.6 million, had recently been put on the market. The New York Daily News reports the house was sold on Thursday, a day before the murder/suicides.
A realtor who spoke with Steven Dym six weeks ago told the New York Post that Dym acted “very weird” after being asked where the family was moving and said "not only did he not know where he was going, but he didn’t even know if he was going,” the realtor said.
Steven Dyms' in-laws also live in Pound Ridge, on a street near Fox Hill Road.
Officers responded after a housekeeper discovered the three people dead inside of the home.
Caroline Dym was entering her senior year at Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, where she was a golf standout.
Steven Dym was CEO of a property management company. Loretta Dym was vice president for global strategic partnerships at Club Quarters Hotel in Stamford, Conn.
The Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct autopsies to determine the cause of death of all three victims.
