Car Slams Into Boulder, Igniting Fire In Pound Ridge

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- An unidentified driver lost control of his vehicle on Sunday in Pound Ridge and slammed into a boulder, causing his car to burst into flames, said the Pound Ridge Fire Department.

Firefighters received the call around 5 p.m. in the area of 36 Dann Farms road. When they arrived, the found the car off the roadway lodged against a large boulder in flames, fire officials said.

While dousing the blaze, firefighters, under the supervision of Assistant Chief Justin Brent, used thermal imaging cameras to try and locate the driver and any passengers in the car and the surrounding wooded area.

The driver was located shortly after the fire at a nearby residence and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. 

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The Pound Ridge Fire Department was assisted by the Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Crops and Westchester EMS.
