POUND RIDGE, N.Y. The town has approved a special-use permit for the Pound Ridge Partnership, which will enable the civic organization to move forward with its Pound Ridge Pride Day planned for next month.
The Pound Ridge Partnership is a group that formed in 2010 to help esthetically improve the Scotts Corners business district and inspire volunteerism. It held its first Pound Ridge Pride Day last year an event that included beautification projects by volunteers followed by a block party in the business district with food and live music.
We know of the success of last years program and were looking forward to this years, Supervisor Gary Warshauer told the partnerships Terri Pike and Sue Grissom at last weeks town board meeting.
Grissom and Pike told the board about some of the plans their group has in store for this years event.
We hope to have the courtyard project finished in time and we have several areas in town where we will be planting, Pike told the board. The PBA will be grilling and the restaurants will come out with a little something to eat as well. Blind Charlies will have ice cream and we will have live music again.
Grissom and Pike noted that there are several new businesses in Scotts Corners Maggie Mays Yogurt and Ice Cream Shop and The Pound Ridge Deli that will be part of the celebration. Additionally, area organizations will set up tables to provide information and help educate residents about their missions and goals.
It should be a unifying experience, Grissom said. We are trying to make it interesting for all members of the community.
The three pillars of the event are beautification, education and community. The beautification aspect will take place from noon to 2 p.m. where volunteers will help with planting and painting throughout the business district.
The idea here is to add a community service element, Grissom said. Its an opportunity to teach the kids about planting too. We are trying to inspire our volunteers.
This years Pound Ridge Pride Day, which is being co-sponsored by the Pound Ridge Library, will be held on Sunday, May 20. The block party portion will run from 2-5 p.m.
Audrey Free, a Pound Ridge resident who was in the audience during last weeks meeting, said she is looking forward to this years event.
Last year, I saw little kids out there weeding side by side along with their parents, she said. It was a beautiful thing and I was never so proud of our community.
