POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – The Pound Ridge Library will bring back the program, “Reading with Rufus, the Book-Loving Dog,” in 2012.

The library started the program last year in which kids have the opportunity and to read out loud to Rufus.

“They say it improves their reading skills because they’re not under any pressure,” said Library Director Marilyn Tinter. “The dog doesn’t know if they got it wrong.”

Tinter said the same dog is usually used, but if it can’t make it a substitute is brought in.

“They’re gentle, docile dogs who will lie there while you read to them,” she said.

Scheduled dates for 2012 include: Jan. 11, Feb. 1, March 7, April 11, May 2 and June 6, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The program is for elementary school children; enrollment is limited and registration is required. Call the library at (914) 764-5085.
