Pound Ridge Officials Hope to Have Pool Ready by Memorial Day

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – Town workers are rushing to complete renovations to the pool house at the Pound Ridge town pool and officials say they're hopeful the building will be ready by Memorial Day.

The pool traditionally opens on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, but the $150,000 renovation project has pushed that back a couple of days.

The town board approved a bond to pay for the renovations in January.

“It’s on track to be open on Memorial Day,” said town board member Richard Lyman, who is the board liaison to the project. “The highway department is putting in the new paving stones and is about halfway done with that. That should be done by Friday night.”

Lyman said there is “still a lot of cosmetic stuff to do,” but the building should be functional by Monday.

“There will be new baths and showers, but no kitchen yet,” he said. “Plus, there is fencing that needs to go in yet. But it’s looking like we had hoped.”

In an e-mail, Pound Ridge Recreation Director David Goldberg said the town’s highway and maintenance department have been working seven days a week on the project while still trying to keep up on their other responsibilities.

“As the pool normally opens on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, we are hoping that we are in a position to open [the pool] on Monday, Memorial Day,” he wrote. “Whether it is open or not we will still have an awesome parade followed by a free barbecue and a band playing on the bandstand [in Town Park].

Picture IDs are required for each family member, including kids ages 5 and up, to enter the pool complex. Cards are available at the rec office at the Town House where the pictures are taken.

The cost of a member is $400 for a family, $350 for a couple, $250 for an individual and $165 for seniors (ages 62 and up).

Group swimming lessons for children will be available for members only for three, two-week sessions. Officials say to check the bulletin board at the pool complex for schedules and fees. Private one-hour lessons for adults and kids also are available at cost of $40.

The pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends through June 17. It will be open daily during those same hours beginning June 18.
