Home Energy Expert to Share Tips in Pound Ridge

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – Winter is making its slow but inevitable approach, which has homeowners thinking about coping with energy bills during a tough economy. The Pound Ridge Sustainability Task Force is trying to help.

The Task Force will host a free home energy talk Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Town House. The guest speaker will be nationally recognized home energy expert Dick Kornbluth.

Kornbluth, who is based in Syracuse, N.Y. , is a board member of the Building Performance Institute, president of Radon Home Services and the principal of Dick Kornbluth, LLC, which he formed in August 2010 to help the home performance industry.

“I created Dick Kornbluth LLC to provide consulting services to the home performance industry,” he said. “My intention was to use my 33 years of experience as residential retrofit insulation contractor and home performance contractor to help contractors grow their businesses while delivering quality services.”

Town Clerk Joanne Pace said the event is the first of its kind for the fledgling Sustainability Task Force.

“The Task Force was formed about two years ago,” Pace said. “Their goal is to educate the public on how to conserve energy and this is their first public speaking event.”

The Task Force helped sponsor last week’s electronics recycling effort held at the Fox Lane campus.

Kornbluth will share his expertise on helping homeowners maintain a comfortable temperature and enjoy improved indoor air quality while, at the same, introduce ways to reduce energy costs. He will explain how a typical house in the Pound Ridge area typically uses and loses energy.

Attendees will learn about common problems that can be easily addressed and save them money. Topics will range from basic comfort levels and drafts to dust, mold, ice dams and overall energy consumption.
