Shots rang out in a Yonkers home at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7 on Buckingham Road. Edward Quinoy, 40, of Tarrytown, was shot four times and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend, both Westchester County correction officers, in an apparent attempted murder/suicide.

Two of the officers -- a man and a woman who apparently were dating -- remain hospitalized in critical condition, said Yonkers police Detective Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said.

Spano offered an update, calling the last several days some of the “darkest in the history of the Westchester County Department of Corrections.”

“We continue to coordinate with the Yonkers Police Department as the investigation continues into the facts and circumstances that led up to this tragic event,” he said.

“Our two surviving officers remain hospitalized at this time, and we will continue to provide them with the support and resources that they need. Similarly, I have been in contact with the immediate families of all three officers, recognizing that each family is suffering from the impact of this event.”

Spano went on to say that it will take he and members of the Westchester County Department of Corrections “time to process.”

“The members of the Westchester County Department of Correction are also in need of our support as the magnitude of this event will take time for our members to process,” he said. “I commend each of them, as many continue to be greatly affected, and nevertheless remain committed to providing care, custody and control of our (more than) 1000 inmate population.”
