Pound Ridge Highway Crews Head Out As Snow Begins To Fall

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – The Pound Ridge Highway Department swung into action Monday morning, sending out trucks to lay down a layer of salt in anticipation of freezing rain Monday afternoon.

A light snow began to fall at 10 a.m. and was expected to change to sleet and freezing rain later this afternoon. Little or no ice accumulation is expected, but the daytime snow and sleet accumulation could be almost 1 inch.

Highway Superintendent Vinnie Duffield said his crews went out around 9 a.m. to begin putting down a thin layer of salt.

“That way, whatever falls hopefully won’t stick,” he said. “As long as you have that base brine layer you should be OK. We’ll be keeping an eye out and monitoring [the weather], and we will respond accordingly

The precipitation is likely to change to all rain before midnight. There is a slight chance of drizzle between midnight and 5 a.m., and a slight chance of freezing drizzle after 5 a.m.
