Unfortunately submitting a comment through the town's website seems to do nothing. I have reported horrible conditions on Illington Road and Croton Dam Rd/Aqueduct Rd 10+ times and only once received a response - the response was, they will patch the holes (which they haven't yet done on Illington, weeks later) but they cannot repave the roads due to the budget! These roads are terrible to drive on, you can't even avoid all the potholes because there are too many! The patches they put in place last MAYBE a month. I've created a Facebook group so we can all show Yorktown we want these roads FIXED, and so people can report dangerous roads (also go to http://www.seeclickfix.com): www.facebook.com/groups/141821832661270 View Comment

Luckily, when I have to commute into the city, I'm going to Queens now (and I drive)... but when I used to take the train/subway and go to Brooklyn, it was a 2-hour door-to-door commute each way! If I drove, it was about 1 hour, but of course traffic could drastically increase that. View Comment

Living in Yorktown and driving the roads often, I hope this is NOT the case! The roads in town today are in HORRIBLE shape. Constantly swerving to avoid potholes and the multiple patching jobs that are done because the town can't afford to repave many of the roads. Sure, some of the main thoroughfares are OK, but get on a back road and forget about it! View Comment

I'm sorry, but if you purchase a home that close to a shopping center, you must already have some expectation of light pollution, noise pollution, etc. And you can't assume that shopping center will never change. We NEED commerce in Yorktown, and there are already too many restrictions. At least in this case, they're not building a new structure but instead utilizing existing space! I don't really understand why another storage business is really needed right next door to another one though... but I haven't seen that argument made yet. Why don't they consider putting up a noise barrier or something to that effect? View Comment

Paddington Stone annoys the heck out of me. They seem unprofessional because they post very shady ads in the Rentals section on Craigslist - the title of the ad will make you think there is a specific apartment available at a great price, when you open the post it is just basically a bunch of horribly arranged images and text and the apartment you thought you were looking at is nowhere to be found. Therefore, I do not trust this company. View Comment

I will say I have mixed feelings about them putting up the map, though it is public information and I don't really see criminals going around and using this map/data all of a sudden to go commit crimes. And you're right, there are plenty of ways to get someone's address. Unfortunately, The Journal News/Lohud.com used a mapping system that DOES allow you to view all the data in a table, sorted, searchable, and downloadable, for anyone who has a little bit of technical knowledge. I figured it out myself in about 15 minutes. Yet they claimed that you cannot view the data that way - they are not familiar with the technology. View Comment

As I commented on another article regarding this, why do towns even have minimum requirements for parking? I could understand maximum limits, so as to limit the amount of pavement etc., but shouldn't the business decide how much parking they need for their type of business and clientele? View Comment

This is great - should really improve the look and feel of downtown, which is sorely needed!!! There needs to be more projects like this, which would hopefully help fill up vacant spaces. I believe there also needs to be some more light residential development in downtown, meaning some reasonably-priced (not necessarily "affordable housing") apartments.. I know there's not much space left but I think this could be done with some creative thinking! I know I would love to live right in the middle of town. View Comment

Regarding the service station property: How is it that a property owner can pay no taxes for 10+ years and the Town doesn't have the ability to take the property from that owner and sell it themselves to someone who will pay taxes and maintain it? View Comment

It would be great to get the highway garage out of the center of downtown. I just REALLY hope they do something great with the space if this happens. Not just another strip mall, or big cinderblock building. There really needs to be a vision for this spot. It could be something great and really change Front Street! View Comment
