Stevens rapid rise from the University of Oregon to Olympic upstart in Rio has been one of the stories of the Games, and on Wednesday night, she will square off against the world’s best in the 200-meter final for a spot on the podium.

After posting the second fastest speed in her qualifying heat at 22.45 seconds, Stevens, a former New Rochelle High School athlete, continued to impress, finishing third in her semifinal run behind Dafne Schippers (21.96s) of the Netherlands and Jamaican Elaine Thompson (22.13s).

Stevens’ ascent has brought Mount Vernon together, as the community teamed for a fundraiser to send her family to Rio and enjoying a citywide viewing party at Doles on Tuesday during the semifinal. The 200-meter women’s final will be airing at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.
