BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. -- West Patent Elementary School has been named a 2017 New York State School of Character.
The school, which announced the naming, is the only one in New York to receive the designation for this year. Schools across the country are selected for the distinction by Character.org, the school noted.
In its announcement, West Patent notes, "State Schools of Character demonstrate “a dedicated focus on character development that has a true positive impact on academic achievement, student behavior, and school climate.”"
West Patent will be honored at the Champions of Character Banquet, which will be held on April 26 in Troy, N.Y., the school noted. The school added that it has also be submitted for consideration to be a National School of Character.
West Patent Elementary School is located in Bedford Hills and is one of five elementary schools in the Bedford Central School District (BCSD). It serves BCSD students from Bedford Hills, Bedford Corners, Mount Kisco and New Castle.
