Three Fox Lane Students Chosen For All-State Music Ensembles

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Three Fox Lane High School musicians were selected from thousands of students throughout New York State to participate in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Ensembles.

Three Fox Lane seniors Jakob Ebers, Ursula Seymour and Lee Tooker were selected for all-state music ensembles.

Jakob Ebers, a 12th grade jazz bass player, will perform as a member of the All-State Vocal Jazz Choir’s rhythm section. Ursula Seymour is a 12th grade soprano singing with the All-State Women’s Choir, and Leigh Tooker, a 12th grade jazz vocalist, will perform in the All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

Selection for participation was based on the student’s solo performance rating in the NYSSMA Solo Festivals held this past spring, in which more than 10,000 students vied for spots in the All-State Ensembles.

Seymour and Tooker participate in the Fox Lane High School choral program and Ebers performs with the Fox Lane High School Jazz Band.

Seymour is vice president of the Fox Lane Players, the high school's award-winning theater production company, and played the role of Mary Jane in the Players' production of "Zona, the Ghost of Greenbrier" last weekend.

Seymour and Ebers both played roles in last year's spring musical "The Wedding Singer," while Tooker plays trumpet in the school's award-winning Winds Ensemble and was selected for all-state Vocal Jazz Ensemble last year as well.

NYSSMA's 77th Annual Winter Conference will be held Nov. 29 through Dec. 1 at the Rochester Convention Center in Rochester. The state conference will feature close to 900 student musicians performing in eight All-State Honors Ensembles, as well as an array of student ensemble and solo performances, music workshops and showcases for electronic music, composition and piano.
