Voters in Edgemont and Rye took it a step further by approving budgets for 2015-16 that can exceed the state's property tax cap. A "yes" vote totaling at least 60 percent of all votes is required to exceed the tax cap.
Rye City School District's budget passed by a margin of 2,418 to 1,034 following a parent-led drive to get voters to override the state's cap on property tax levies. Voters cast the more than 60 percent affirmative votes needed to do that as reported earlier by Daily Voice.
Rye had both the highest number of "yes" votes, and the largest total votes cast of any of Westchester's 39 school districts.
Budgets also were easily approved by voters in Ardsley, Blind Brook, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Greenburgh, Harrison, Hastings, Irvington, Mamaroneck, Mount Pleasant, Port Chester, Rye Neck, Valhalla and White Plains.
