POUND RIDGE, N.Y. The Pound Ridge Elementary School PTA will kick off its after-school enrichment program known as PRIDE on Monday with an array of classes that range from sports to arts to science to literature.
Additionally, for the second year in a row the school will roll out its student clubs, which focus on special academic areas that include foreign language studies in Mandarin Chinese, French and Spanish. Other student clubs center on mathematics, chess, architecture and books.
Were excited to be able to offer our students school-enrichment programs that are fun, interesting and affordable, said Principal Tim Gembka. We couldnt do it without the support of the PTA and our community.
This fall semester PRIDE offers about 20 programs. Some of the programs are led by outside experts. Cake Decorating," is led by pastry chef Judy Kaplan and Ultimate Frisbee is conducted by Norwalk, Conn.- based Overtime Athletics. Other programs taught by the school's teachers include Clay Makers and Drawing and Painting with award-winning art teacher David Llanos, and Sports Fun and Play and Girls Got Game with physical education teacher Jean Mazzilli.
PRIDE runs for eight weeks from Oct. 1 to Dec. 3, Monday-Friday from 3:10 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. For a complete listing of programs, go to www.pride.allregistrations.com/ClassListings.aspx .
