POUND RIDGE, N.Y. The Pound Ridge Elementary School PTA is gearing up for one of its biggest fundraisers of the year when it holds its annual PRES Scholastic Book Fair later this month.
Its an enormous book fair and, according to Scholastic, its one of the highest-earning fairs over the past eight years or so, said Karen Warren, the fairs chairperson. The funds we make pay for enrichment programs for grades K-5.
Warren said the PTAs focus is for parents to raise children who are readers.
The event begins on Sunday, Oct. 23, which will also include a bake sale, and runs through Thursday, Oct. 27. Other highlights include a preschool storybook reading event on Tuesday, Oct. 25, a family fun night on Wednesday, Oct. 26, and senior discount day on Thursday, Oct. 27, when senior citizens can get 10 percent off all their purchases. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day except Thursday, when they are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fair will be held in the schools kindergarten wing and the library.
The books sold are all published by Scholastic, and while many are academic in nature, they run the gamut for all ages and tastes.
There will be books for adults, Warren said. Well have New York Times bestsellers, cookbooks, how to books, self-help books and holiday selections. There will be sports books and trivia as well.
Warren said that the sale will also include high interest books targeted for children who normally dont like to read, such as graphic novels, and books on sports and entertainment. She added that the senior discount day is a good time for seniors to buy holiday gifts for grandchildren at a reduced price.
