Current New Rochelle high school music students will be joined by some of the district’s famous alumni on stage to put on a special concert at Carnegie courtesy of the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence.

The concert will feature performances by several New Rochelle musical groups, with guest performer Derek Bermel, a 1985 graduate. Alumni Michael M. Kaiser, the chairman of DeVos Institute of Arts Management and former president of the John. F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, will act as the master of ceremonies.

Co-chairs Tina Dasgupta, Karen Selman and Leah Sills are also preparing to put together a commemorative “memory book” of the event that will serve as a keepsake for the students.

“The concert is a wonderful way to introduce young people to the joy of music at one of the world’s most iconic venues,” they said in a statement. “The journal is a perfect way to show your public support of this concert.”

The concert won’t be held until June 3, but tickets are on sale and there is limited seating available for patrons. New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson mused that he’s already punched his ticket and is eager to see the students take the stage this summer.

“It’s never too early to reserve your spot or provide a sponsorship. All the dollars raised help supplement programming in our schools through the Fund’s outstanding work,” he said. “This concert is truly one of the great events in New Rochelle. It’s a remarkable showcase of local talent that is guaranteed to make you proud of our city and its youngsters.”
