Christopher J. Demauro, 30, was stopped around 3:53 p.m., by Sgt. Johnathon Cihanek for allegedly failing to yield the right of way to traffic on Route 6 in the Town of Carmel, said Capt. William McNamara.
When asked for his identification, Demauro misrepresented his identity by giving the deputy a false name, McNamara added.
A further investigation revealed that Demauro was allegedly in possession of two hypodermic needles, he said.
Cihanek arrested Demauro and charged him with criminal impersonation and with two counts of possessing a hypodermic instrument, all misdemeanors.
Demauro was held at the Putnam County Jail on $1,000 cash bail. He was released Monday, Feb. 20, after posting bail.
If found guilty of the charges, Demauro could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 on each count.
