To the Editor,

We are writing to express our enthusiastic support for Bedford Board of Education candidate Marie Scanlan. As 21-year residents of Bedford and parents of four children who have grown up within the walls of the Bedford Central Schools, we have worked along side Marie both within the academic community and within the community at large. We have seen first hand how Marie’s can-do attitude, strong leadership skills, innovative thinking and passion for academic excellence have helped improve and enrich the educational experience of all BCSD students.

Marie has never hesitated to lend herself full-throttle wherever she is needed. She has 11 years of volunteer experience at Bedford Village Elementary School, including as co-president of its parent association. More recently, she has proven her creative, outside-the-box acumen by identifying both a need and an opportunity to create an organization that brings together faculty, community members, parents, various academic experts and businesses to enhance the learning experience of our students beyond the classroom. The result: The 2012 not-for-profit establishment of the Foundation for Bedford Central Schools, where she is a founding member, and has served as chair for 5 years.

Working alongside Marie as fellow members of The Bedford Chowder and Marching Club is just one more way we can attest to her devotion to Bedford’s youth.

It is clear that Marie Scanlan’s past professional experience, contributions to and initiatives within the Bedford Central School District speak volumes about her ability to balance our collective desire for academic excellence for all students with fiscal responsibility. Please join us in supporting Marie Scanlan for BCSD Board of Education on May 16.
