Students engaged in the virtual reality experience through a Google Cardboard viewer, a smartphone and a free application called Egypt Chamber.
Humanities teacher Marcia Daley-Savo envisioned classroom applications for the technology after witnessing it in action at a conference.
Daley-Savo secured six smartphones from eBay with aid from the Katonah-Lewisboro School Foundation. She hopes to expand the use of technology into future units and classrooms.
“I want them to be able to problem-solve and help each other,” Daley-Savo said.
The experience offered 360-degree views of a pharaoh's tomb in Egypt as the students virtually walked through dark chambers and collected ancient artifacts.
