Senior Marcello Carello will travel to the Nov. 10-13 National Association for Music Education National Conference in Grapevine, Texas. His performance is with the NAfME All-National Honor Jazz Ensemble.
At Fox Lane, Marcello is a drummer with the school's Chamber Winds and Jazz Ensemble.
The All-National Honor Ensembles consist of a concert band, orchestra, mixed chorus, and jazz ensemble.
Students from New York State were selected based on their spring solo festival adjudication scores and a videotape submission demonstrating technical and musical skills, according to the announcement.
Those students are currently rehearsing a challenging repertoire in preparation for performing under the direction some of the most prominent conductors in the United States.
This year’s directors for the All-National Jazz Ensemble are members of the staff at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
"Words can't express my appreciation for this wonderful opportunity to play alongside some of the best young jazz musicians in the nation. Working with Todd Stoll and Chris Crenshaw from Jazz at Lincoln Center is a dream come true and I'm really excited to be challenged with the difficult music being performed this year," Marcello said.
"I am so impressed with Marcello’s ability to contribute to the overall success of any ensemble he is in," said Paul Tooker, Marcello's band teacher since he was nine.
For the last four years, Marcello has studied in both the classical and jazz programs in the pre-college division at The Manhattan School of Music.
He was also named a 2016 National YoungArts Foundation Merit Winner in Jazz Percussion and spent a full week in New York City last spring performing with other recipients of this award.
