Douglas Coudrey, age 26, and Kenneth Regan, age 25, received their sentence of 40 years to life for the murder of Justin Gottlieb on Friday, March 22, the Nassau County District Attorney announced.

Just over four years earlier, on January 14, 2020, the 27-year-old Gottlieb was driving home in his Ford Explorer to Plainview from his job as an electrical engineer.

While he drove, Coudrey (who is from Eastport) and Regan (from Centereach) followed him in their Ford Fusion.

Gottlieb pulled up to his parent’s house just after 5:30 p.m., which was right next to where he lived with his fiancé and his infant daughter. While he was still in the car, Coudrey and Regan pulled up next to him and shot him twice – once in the leg and once in the chest.

Though injured and fighting for his life, the DA’s Office said, he ran into the house, where he told his parents that the shooters were “two kids in a white Ford Fusion.”

He died a short time later at Plainview Hospital.

Then, only four days later, the pair allegedly shot another motorist, this time on Interstate 80 in Lodi, New Jersey. One person died and another was injured in this purported attack, which is being prosecuted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

“Justin’s daughter will never get to know the man that so many family members and friends loved because of the despicable violence of these two men,” said District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly.

“Our thoughts remain with Justin’s loved ones as they continue to grieve his loss.”

On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the two were convicted of murder and criminal possession of a weapon after a jury deliberated for only three hours.
