Westwood High School Relay For Life In Washington Township Welcomes Rain

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- A massive turnout embraced the rain at the American Cancer Society's overnight Relay for Life fundraiser at Westwood Regional Junior/Senior High School in Washington Township.

Young and old celebrated cancer survivors while remembering those killed by it during “Coloring Outside the Lines for a Cure.”

Beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday and ending at 7 a.m. Sunday, the campout event featured games, dancing, face painting, food and more. Meanwhile, at least one person from each team was walking around the school track at all times.

It began with a survivors' lap, followed by a caregivers' lap.

Relay For Life of Pascack Valley (RFLPV) continues to be one of the largest fundraising groups in the Northeast region -- with nearly 1,500 representatives from Emerson, Hillsdale, Montvale, Old Tappan, Park Ridge, River Vale, Washington Township, Westwood and Woodcliff Lake compromising more than 50 teams.

Volunteers raise money all year, leading up to the big event.

This year's top fund-raising groups:

  • Pascack Valley Class of 2018 (Emerald Team): $28,226.01
  • Pascack Hills Teens Against Cancer (Sapphire Team): $24,400.61
  • KPMG (Hope Blooms): $13,119

Top individual contributors:

  • Josh Ulin: $4,579
