One dead, another serious in Edgewater head-on crash

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: An Englewood Cliffs man was killed in an early-morning, head-on crash in Edgewater that closed River Road and tied up traffic on surrounding thoroughfares for hours.

Naim Nezaj, 42, was driving a white Mercedes north on River Road when it struck a curb and he lost control of the vehicle in the 1100 block near the Admiral’s Walk condominiums around 5 a.m., authorities told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The Mercedes then “crossed over into the southbound lane,” hitting a Mitsubishi Lanser driven by a 36-year-old Jersey City woman, they said.

Nezaj was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the other car was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with several compound fractures, they said.

She was listed in serious condition late this morning.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Unit investigated. The county Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence.
