Sleepy Hollow Official Accused in Teen Sex Sting Seeks Treatment

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Former Sleepy Hollow Planning Board Chair George Tanner is seeking treatment at a mental health facility in Connecticut, according to court records.

Tanner was scheduled to appear in White Plains City Court Thursday morning, but could not make an appearance because he is at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Conn., according to a letter from his attorney.

Tanner, 60, was charged with attempted dissemination of indecent material to minors, a felony, after trying to arrange a tryst online with what he thought was a 15-year-old girl, according to the Westchester District Attorney's Office. The girl was actually a detective with the office's high technology crimes unit.

Tanner has since resigned from his post as planning board chair. His term was set to expire in 2015.

Judge Jo Ann Friia read a letter from Tanner's attorney, Andrew Quinn, because Quinn was also engaged elsewhere. The court directed Tanner to hire an attorney during his last court appearance. Friia did not mention why Tanner was seeking treatment at Silver Hill. A message was left with Quinn's office and has not yet been returned.

Tanner's case has been adjourned until March 29.
