POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – Westchester County Republicans kicked off the election season on Sunday with their annual Lincoln Breakfast in Hastings, and the GOP from Pound Ridge was well represented.
Town Board member Dick Lyman; Pound Ridge Republican Committee member and Volunteer of the Year award recipient Pat Mutolo; and Joe Zaino, chair of the Pound Ridge Republican Committee, were all in attendance.
While the affair provided an opportunity for GOP leaders to honor the nation’s 16th president, it also served as a pep rally of sorts to launch County Executive Rob Astorino’s re-election campaign.
“The breakfast is also a way to reflect on our achievements and goals and to honor our local volunteers who work hard to support and elect candidates,” said Diane Malichio, president of the Pound Ridge Women’s Republican Club.
In a speech to the audience, Astornio said he anticipates a tough battle with the Democrats in the November elections.
“We have to work harder and smarter,” he said. “There are people across the aisle sharpening their axes for a totem pole that looks like me. The time to get organized is now.”
