Volunteers play a vital role in almost every aspect of our community – touching countless lives, supporting hundreds of not-for-profits, and forging stronger bonds between neighbors. Westchester just wouldn’t function without volunteers, and there is no group that does more to inspire, mobilize, and connect volunteers throughout our region than Volunteer New York!

Last year alone, they enlisted 15,000 volunteers who collectively donated 240,000 hours to a staggering range of good causes. And here in New Rochelle, we have partnered with Volunteer New York! for years to support community needs.

Today is the 65th birthday of Volunteer New York! To celebrate, 65 leaders — including yours truly — were selected to receive cupcakes. A few local volunteers joined me at City Hall for the occasion, and, together, we’re happy to share the cupcake with you (virtually, that is.)

A virtual cupcake is not quite as tasty or filling as one made of flour and sugar, but it represents something a lot more important than a sweet snack. So if you have a few spare hours to give, whether every week or just once a year, check out Volunteer New York! and please pitch in. http://www.noambramson.org/2015/02/cupcake-sort/
