To the editor:

This seems like an easy election in Pound Ridge. The current Town Board majority is doing a fine job. Taxes are stable, there is progress in Scotts Corners, new residents are moving in.

The Democratic platform seems to have three planks:

(1) Raise our property values. But what do they know about raising property values, net of costs? The business experiences they cite do not include this rare skill. Their concrete idea is to run a shuttle from Scotts Corners to a train, I guess in New Canaan. Since I live off Long Ridge Road, I would not use such a shuttle. It would benefit only some Pound Ridge commuters, but we would all pay higher taxes for it. It could even lower property values.

Are Pound Ridge property values doing worse than others in the same school district?

(2) Get Scotts Corners working again. But every time I go to Scotts Corners Market now I have to go around all the construction there! Why are Democrats promising what the incumbents are already accomplishing?

(3) Reflect national issues. Trump, Clinton, Weinstein etc. are accused of mistreating women. It’s dizzying. So let's elect people who helped bring a new domestic violence victims' center to our area. That would be incumbent, Dick Lyman. Some Democrats are clamoring for a sanctuary resolution. So let’s elect people who actually have sponsored Central American immigrants for US citizenship. That would also be Dick Lyman.

In a Democratic flyer that I received, their plan of action is to create a plan. Councilman Paschkes has been on the board for 16 years, but what has he accomplished? It is all "we are going to do this, going to do that."

Yes it is an easy election. Let's keep the accomplished on the Town Board and elect Pete Marchetti, adding an engineer to the Town House.

Sincerely,

David Quinn
