WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Despite overnight and morning rain on Wednesday, conditions will become dry and windy enough by Thursday in Westchester County that the National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch.

The watch is in effect from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Skies will clear later on Wednesday with the relative humidity plummeting and winds picking up.

Thursday will be sunny with a high of 61 with winds blowing from the northwest at 20 to 25 mph. The wind could gust up to 40 mph at times.

The entire tri-state area will be affected by the Fire Watch, with the National Weather Service warning that fire could spread rapidly if ignition occurs.

A Red Flag Warning - the next highest fire warning - has been issued south of the tri-state area in the greater Philadelphia and Washington D.C. areas, which could expand to the tri-state area if conditions become even drier than expected.

Showers are possible later on Friday and on Saturday, which will likely end the watch.
