On Thursday, the Baltimore State's Attorney's Office, charged Scott Smith, 30, of Mount Vernon and Andrew Nappi, 31, of Eastchester, with the additional charges of conspiracy to commit assault and reckless endangerment, in addition to their original charges of first- and second-degree assault, said the Baltimore Sun.
According to charging documents, Joseph Bauer was punched in his head and shoved down by the two men, before hitting his head on the ground, knocking him unconscious. His family said as a result of the attack, Bauer now suffers from a serious brain injury, added the Baltimore Sun.
The Raven's fan remains in a rehabilitation hospital and is recovering slowly, the Sun said.
Following the incident, Nappi told police they argued and that Bauer threw a bottle that hit Smith in the head. He said that's when he punched the man in the face and Smith shoved him to the ground, reported the Baltimore Sun.
Smith, a rookie firefighter in the Mount Vernon Fire Department, has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation, added the Sun.
