Tom Darold and Frank Sisti completed a 21-hour training course and passed an examination to qualify as members of the Pound Ridge Volunteer Fire Police squad. They were recently sworn in by Town Clerk Joanne Pace as “peace officers,” a prerequisite for becoming a fire police officer.
In addition to regular firefighting duties, fire police are responsible for traffic safety and scene control at emergencies that involve the fire department. They may also be asked to assist the police and other agencies that need additional manpower. “The fire police squad is an integral part of our volunteer fire department,” Chief Ed Trail said. “While there may be traffic delays or diversions at emergencies, our fire police help ensure these are done with a primary emphasis on safety and with minimum disruption to motorists.”
