Three Charged After Loaded Handgun Recovered From Vehicle In Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Peekskill Police arrested and charged three 23-year-olds with possessing a loaded gun following a traffic stop Monday night.

Cortlandt Manor residents Garfield Holland and Noah Waldstein and Peekskill resident Cain Smalls were arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm in the second degree, a Class C felony and Criminal

Officer Jonathan Mosquera, stopped a 2005 Audi on the Bear Mountain Parkway after observing Holland commit a traffic offense. Holland was found to be driving with a suspended license and was taken into custody, police said.

 Officers Kylee Pappas and Khalia Carter arrived on the scene and observed the front seat passenger, Waldstein, attempting to reach for an unknown item under the seat, police said.

Both the front seat passenger and the rear seat passenger, Smalls, were removed from the vehicle and further investigation revealed a loaded 9mm handgun under the front passenger seat, police said.

The firearm was found to have a defaced serial. The three were held for arraignment in Peekskill City Court.

Waldstein was additionally charged with criminal impersonation for providing officers with a false name and was He was also found to have an outstanding warrantfor failure to appear in court on a previous charge.

“Vehicle stops are known as one of the more dangerous jobs that police officers are tasked with and thanks to good solid teamwork, these three officers were able to safely arrest these individuals without incident, remove an illegal handgun from our streets, and prevent future violence," Chief Eric Johansen said.
