Pound Ridge Cops Charge Man with DWI, Pot Possession

POUND RIDGE N.Y. – Pound Ridge police arrested a Bethel, Conn. man early Saturday morning and charged him with three misdemeanors, including driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of marijuana.

At approximately 2:17 a.m. Saturday, police made a traffic stop on Long Ridge Road. Police said during the interview with the driver, they detected a strong odor of alcohol. The driver was given a field sobriety test, which police said he failed. During the stop, police allegedly also discovered a small amount of marijuana.

Officers arrested Anish Aswani, 26, and charged him DWI (first offense), unlawful possession of marijuana, and third-degree aggravated unauthorized operation of a motor vehicle. He also was issued traffic summonses for driving left of the pavement and following too close.

Aswani was released on $250 bail. He is due back in court June 25.

The following items also were reported by the Pound Ridge police:

  • On June 5, police arrested a Stamford, Conn. man and charged him third-degree aggravated unauthorized operation of a motor vehicle. At around 9:35 a.m., police said they stopped a car on Long Ridge Road for speeding. Police said a check revealed the driver, Kirk O. Morrison, 26, had his New York driving privileges suspended. Morrison also was issued a summons for traveling 59 mph in a 40 mph zone.
  • Police responded to a suspicious person call at 8:55 p.m. June 7 on Samuel Dunn Way. The homeowner reported two youths walking up the driveway who allegedly ran off when they saw her. Police checked the area but could not locate the youths.
  • Police were called to Miller Road at around 10:30 p.m. Friday on a report of disorderly youths doing pranks in the area. Officers located the youths and spoke to them, advising them to stop or charges would be filed. No further problems were reported.
