Police: Cortlandt Parents OK'd Underage Drinking Party

CORTLANDT, N.Y. - Parents of a 17-year-old high school student were arrested and charged with two misdemeanors after police say they were aware their son was hosting an underage drinking party in their residence.

Bolivar Alvarez, 37, and Gladys Alvarez, 38 were charged with endangering the welfare of a child and unlawfully dealing with a child, both misdemeanors.

Police say up to 100 teens from Walter Panas, Lakeland and Hendrick Hudson high schools attended the party Saturday night at the Alvarez's home. Police were called just before 11:30 p.m., when cars began blocking traffic near the home at 201 Buttonwood Ave., Cortlandt.

As troopers arrived, several members of the party fled the scene. Police said their investigation revealed, "evidence of alcohol and marijuana," and that the Alvarez's 17-year-old son was the host. The son was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol, a violation. The Alvarez's 12-year-old daughter was home at the time of the party, police said.

The couple and their son were all issued appearance tickets for 9 a.m. Jan. 18 in Town of Cortlandt Justice Court.
