Man, 22, Had BAC Three Times Limit In Taconic Wrong-Way Crash, Police Say

A White Plains man was arrested on Wednesday night after being involved in a wrong-way collision on the Taconic State Parkway with a blood alcohol content nearly quadruple the legal limit.

State police announced Thursday that at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday night, White Plains resident Sawyer White, 22, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes near the 7.1-mile post marker, when he struck a 62-year-old motorist from Poughkeepsie head on.

According to police, White was intoxicated at the time of the crash. His victim was transported to the Westchester Medical Center for evaluation before being released. After being arrested, White supplied a breath sample that showed he had a blood-alcohol content of .27 percent, more than triple the legal limit of .08 percent, state police said.

A section of the parkway was closed for hours following the crash as police investigated.

White was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content exceeding .08 percent, reckless driving, speeding and multiple vehicle and traffic offenses. He is due back in the Town of Mount Pleasant Court on Thursday, Jan. 19.
