A Briggs Lane resident called the North Castle Police Department shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, when he noticed a hole in his backyard, which he believes to have been caused by a lightning strike in the area during this week’s thunderstorms.
Officers were dispatched to the residence to evaluate the situation, and reported that nothing was on fire and a walkthrough of the backyard found that everything was in order following the alleged lightning strike. The homeowner was advised to contact his homeowner's insurance company and officers cleared the scene.
Other items on the North Castle Police Department blotter from Friday, June 29 through Thursday, July 5 include:
- Shortly before 8:30 p.m. on July 3, a caller reported to police that a motorist in a White Mercedes E-Class had struck another car and took off on Whippoorwill Crossing. Officers responded to the scene and canvassed the area without tracking down the Mercedes.
- A Washington Avenue resident reported to police that she had placed a “Have A Heart” animal trap outside her home in the morning, and when she returned home at approximately 7 p.m. on Tuesday, it was gone.
- On Tuesday, a woman reported that a white box truck had almost ran her off the road on Wampus Lakes Drive, while approaching Whippoorwill Road East. Officers responded to the scene of the alleged near crash and canvased the area without success.
- Officers from the department assisted a dear that was stuck on Route 22 on Monday morning, following multiple reports from motorists in the area. A member responded to the area and helped move the deer into the shoulder and toward a wooded area.
