Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino Jr. said Tuesday that 25-year-old Purdys resident Ronal Danilo Sandoval-Compos has pleaded not guilty to a 12-count indictment that includes felony rape and attempted rape charges.

According to Scarpino, at approximately midnight on June 3 last year, a 42-year-old woman from Mount Kisco was sleeping in her bed when Sandoval-Compos entered her bedroom and climbed on top of her. During the course of the struggle, Sandoval-Compos raped his victim before fleeing from the apartment.

During his flight, Sandoval-Compos dropped a gray hat that he was wearing at the scene, Scarpino said.

At approximately 8 a.m. on Aug. 21, his second victim, a 19-year-old woman, arrived at the Metro-North station in Purdys after spending time in Manhattan. Scarpino said that as she walked through the stairwell and platform toward the parking lot, she was approached by Sandoval-Compos, who attempted to engage in conversation.

Scarpino said that after being ignored, Sandoval-Compos grabbed her on the footpath leading to Route 116, securing her to the ground, groping her and attempting to remove her clothing. A passerby heard the woman struggling and was able to prevent the rape.

Again, Sandoval-Compos fled the scene, dropping an orange baseball hat he was wearing during the attack, Scarpino said. DNA results conducted from the two hats were entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) and police linked the cases to each other, according to Scarpino.

Sandoval-Compos was arrested on Sept. 9 last year and charged with one count of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree attempted rape, one count of burglary, one count of burglary as a sexually motivated offense, two counts of sexual abuse, one count of third-degree rape and one count of third-degree attempted rape, all felonies. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal obstruction of breathing and unlawful imprisonment.

During Tuesday’s arraignment, Sandoval-Compos pleaded not guilty. He has been remanded to the Westchester County Jail. He is due back in court on Wednesday, May 2, where he will face sentencing.
