Assault On Co-Worker With Broomstick, DWI Arrest Top Bedford Police Reports

BEDFORD, N.Y. - A man from Bedford is facing a felony assault and weapons charge after allegedly attacking a co-worker with a broomstick, according to a report released on Friday.

At approximately 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, a man came to Bedford Police Headquarters stating that he had become involved in a verbal argument with a co-worker that turned unexpectedly physical.

According to police, the man proceeded to strike his co-worker with the broomstick several times. The alleged victim’s right side reportedly displayed redness, swelling and abrasion to the right side of his body.

The man was picked up by officers at their place of employment on Croton Lake Road. He was subsequently charged with a felony count of second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

Other items on the Bedford Police Department blotter include:

  • Later that day on March 12, officers on patrol spotted an erratic motorist driving on Bedford Road in Bedford Hills. A vehicle that matched the description offered was later spotted at the drive-through at a McDonald’s location on the same road. According to police, the 67-year-old driver’s responses were “slow and disjointed, and he had trouble standing when asked to exit his car.” The man refused to take a field sobriety test and was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. He was also issued a ticket for refusing to take the chemical test at the scene.
  • At approximately 9 p.m. on Friday, March 10, police spotted a man that appeared to be intoxicated and bleeding walking on School Street in Bedford Hills. Police approached the man, who stated that he had fallen, though he initially refused assistance. Officers ultimately called for an ambulance and persuaded the man to go to the hospital for treatment.
