To the editor:
I'm writing to express my enthusiastic support for Brian Sheerin as member of the Board of Education.
I have known Brian and his family for over a decade and am proud to call him a friend. But our friendship is not solely the reason he has earned my support.
Brian is a passionate advocate for all of our children. He brings tireless commitment, intelligence and good humor to all he does. As a gay father, he adds another perspective to a board that represents the diversity of our district. Brian is an honest man, a critical thinker and has a high degree of integrity.
Here are some of the issues I know Brian cares about the most: he has a desire to procure additional resources from outside non-governmental agencies that help close the achievement gap for all of our vulnerable populations. He is aware that frequently the kids "in the middle" are blocked from the assistance they need in striving to reach up academically, and Brian wants to find ways to change that. He also wants to improve our best practices regarding the handling of bullying and staff's handling of LGBT issues.
Brian Sheerin would be a welcome addition and an asset to our Board of Education. He has my vote and I urge you to vote for him, too.
