Letter: Support Sherene De Palma For Pound Ridge Town Board

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- Pound Ridge Daily Voice accepts signed letters to the editor. Please send letters to poundridge@dailyvoice.com

To the editor:

My family moved to Pound Ridge in the summer of 2008 after taking an exhaustive look at the many wonderful communities Westchester has to offer.

We decided on Pound Ridge for many reasons, including the great and diverse school system, the access to more land and green spaces, and not least of which, the amazing people that inhabit the town.

We knew no one in Pound Ridge prior to our search, but had the opportunity to meet many individuals during the process, and the reputation of the community we received prior to these introductions proved accurate. What clinched it for us was the open-minded, thoughtful, and respectful nature of the people.

Sherene De Palma exemplifies all of these qualities which many of us value as essential to a happy and safe environment in which to raise our children. I have known Sherene and her husband, Richie, from early on in our time here in Pound Ridge. Their daughter is a classmate of my oldest child, and we became friends through our involvement in many of the activities of our children.

Sherene has always proven to be a tireless volunteer in any capacity that was asked of her through the years. She brings tremendous enthusiasm, sharp wit, and novel ideas, along with her ever present smile and sincere warmth for her fellow community members.

Over the last three years, I have had the honor of working with Sherene on the Pound Ridge Democratic Committee. Her keen ability to find common ground amongst the many opinions within the group has set her apart. After all, isn't this quality what American government so desperately needs more of?

Sherene is well versed in mediation tactics. Her experience as an attorney and certified professional mediator will help further the goals of the Pound Ridge Town Board. We have a unique opportunity in the Nov. 4 election to strengthen our town government by electing a person who will bring a rare combination of fiscal conservatism, novel ideas, tireless work ethic, open-mindedness, and an ability to keenly identify common ground amongst the board members as a basis for which to implement sound plans improve our town, as well as our lives in the process.

I would like to urge all of the voters to strongly consider Sherene for your vote for Town Board this Nov. 4.

In my view, town politics should be more influenced by the local issues that affect our lives every day than party affiliation. Refreshingly, we can and should put our views about national politics on the back burner when it comes to these local elections.

So whether you identify yourself politically as a Republican, Democrat, Independent, or with any other party, please consider the person who is best qualified to help lead our community into the future. That person is Sherene De Palma.

Sincerely,

Rob Ades
